The retaining walls present a complex problem of inter- action between the wall and back fill and no satisfactory theory has so far been put forth for its analysis. Since the effect of earthquake motion is represented by equivalent seismic coefficients for various structures, the same concept is used in retaining walls also. A slight modification to static methods of analysis, based on wedge theory, is made to take into account the extra equivalent forces due to earthquakes.
